Economics and Software Piracy
If computers software were inexpensive, would people pirate less? Lowering the prices of software would be an effective solution if profitable factors were the primary cause behind piracy. Software developer companies can lower the price of their software by producing it in large volume.
Experts in these disciplines ranging from economics, sociology and psychology have observed the motivations behind software piracy carefully. There is no internationally accepted explanation for software piracy. But experts in multiple disciplines have given a number of reasons that contribute to a person's decision to steal software.
It is true that most of the people steal software because of its cost, but let us forget the money issue for now. If the price is higher for a person then what he/she is willing to pay, that person might pirate the software. A common explanation for software piracy goes something like this: The software company is large and makes billions of dollars. One stolen piece of software would not effect the economical conditions of an organization. In other words, since the organizations can not feel the loss so, stealing from them isn't wrong.
A research into this concern suggests that most of the software pirates steal programs regardless of the software's price tag. A study suggests that most of the people view digital property differently than physical property. They don't place as great a value on software as they would to a physical object like a vehicle or a House. People think that stealing a software isn't the same as stealing a physical object because the software is being copied rather than taking a physical object. In short, stealing a software is not a crime because they feel software to have less value than physical objects.

Latest Devices and the Operating Systems
Most of the desktop or laptop PCs come pre-loaded with Windows operating system. Macintosh computers come pre-loaded with Mac OS X operating system which is developed by Apple. The first thing loaded into the computer system is the operating system because a computer is useless without the operating system.
More recently, small computers have also started using the operating systems instead of any other software. Like Microsoft has launched different versions of Windows Mobile which is being used in mobiles such as Apple's iPhone, Microsoft's Zune and many more. If you like to experiment with electronic devices, you must be well aware with the facts that that operating systems are now available on many of the devices which we use every day like cell phones, wireless access points, digital players etc. The small computers used in all these daily use electronic devices are so powerful that they are now capable of running an operating system and all those applications that are used on a computer. The modern cell phone is now more powerful than a desktop computer, so this improvement makes sense and is a natural development.
The operating system organizes and controls hardware and software to make that device behave in a pliable but predictable way. For devices, an operating system creates the capability to:
serve for different purposes
interact with users in more complex ways
keep up with requirements that change over time

Internet Security Tips
It’s important to calmly actuate whether a Web site that should be appliance https, in fact is. If Firefox aboriginal came out it acclimated a adjustment that was calmly discernible. The abode bar would about-face chicken and a lock figure would arise on the right-hand ancillary of the abode bar:
That affection was replaced by a baby dejected anatomy surrounding the Web site’s favicon in the third adaptation of Firefox. Additionally, beat on the dejected acreage reveals added advice about the Web site’s SSL certificate:
I’m not decidedly assertive the new access is better. It’s simple to absence whether the site is appliance https or not, abnormally if the favicon is blue. Also, I’ve apprehend that the dejected anatomy and a lot of favicons are simple to forge.
As to why the change, my assumption would be that Firefox developers anticipation Extended Validation (EV) certificates were traveling to become the barometer and focused on a way to bigger affectation the EV information. I anticipate they succeeded, agreement the Web-site’s name in a blooming anatomy is actual distinguishable:
It’s a nice concept, but the use of EV certificates isn’t that prevalent, which affectionate of defeats the accomplished purpose. If my anamnesis serves me correctly, beneath than one percent of all Web sites appliance SSL accept EV certificates. It’s barefaced though. By design, the vetting action is added in-depth, which drives up the amount of accepting an EV certificate.
An acceptable acquaintance of abundance let me in on what I’ d alarm a hidden gem and I capital to canyon it along. It’s not perfect, but it absolutely helps access acquaintance of whether a Web site is appliance https or not. Besides it’s simple to do:
1. Type about:config in the abode bar.
2. Firefox will affectation the afterward warning.
3. Click on the “ll be careful, I promise” button.
4. Enter “browser.identity.ssl_domain_display” (minus quotes) in the Filter box.
5. Double bang on entry, which opens a chat box.
6. Change the access from ought to one.
What this does is change the actualization of how the abode bar displays advice for Web sites appliance approved SSL certificates. As you can see below, except for the anatomy getting dejected instead of blooming it looks identical to what’s displayed by a Web site appliance an EV certificate. This should advice abate the accident of ambiguous anchored Web sites with apart ones.
Revisit Perspectives
The appliance works agilely in the accomplishments authoritative abiding SSL certificates are valid. Now that I said that, I wish to alter the agreement I acclimated in the antecedent article, even admitting it makes Perspectives a bit noisier.
The two changes I’d like to adduce are:
· Uncheck the absence ambience of “Allow perspectives to automatically override aegis errors”.
· Change “When to Contact Notaries” from the absence to “Contact Notaries for all HTTPS sites”.
Perspectives aren’t absolute and the aloft changes may accord added apocryphal positives, but appliance the new settings will access aegis while surfing the Web.
SSL Blacklist
Firefox browser support adaptation three checks a certificate’s abolishment cachet appliance the online affidavit cachet protocol. There’s a botheration with that though. Like EV certifications the use of this agreement is actual limited. In a somewhat acrid twist, all SSL certificates do accommodate advice about area to access a affidavit authority’s affidavit abolishment list, but Firefox isn’t bureaucracy to use them. Hmmm, this agency Firefox isn’t able of alive whether a majority of absolute SSL certificates are accurate or not.
MГ rton Anka seeing this absence developed the SSL Blacklist add on for Firefox. The appliance detects and letters on weak/revoked certificates or those that are still appliance the anemic MD5 assortment algorithm.
NoScript: a favorite
If you chase my articles, you will apperceive that I anticipate awful of Giorgio Maone’s Firefox add on NoScript. Giorgio accomplished that a all-inclusive majority of awful Web sites use JavaScript exploits to advantage ascendancy of a victim’s computer. So he developed NoScript, which gives the user ascendancy on whether to acquiesce or abjure beheading of assertive JavaScript cipher that NoScript deems as possibly harmful.
As you ability guess, it’s a adequately blatant add on. NoScript is traveling to ask you absolutely generally on whether you assurance the site abundant to acquiesce JavaScript cipher execution. If that’s too granular, you accept the advantage to change the ambience “Scripts Globally Accustomed (dangerous) from the absence of disabled to enable.
Doing so will accomplish NoScripts appreciably beneath intrusive, but any aegis from JavaScript vulnerabilities is also removed. On a acceptable note, even with scripts globally accustomed you are still afforded aegis from ClickJacking.
Final thoughts
There you accept it, four tips that I use and acclaim to all of my clients. None of them are absolute solutions, but they absolutely drag user aegis if surfing the Web with Firefox. Let me apperceive if you accept any admired aegis add ons for Firefox that I may accept missed. Also if you accept started appliance Internet Explorer 8, I’d be analytical to apprentice how it compares to Firefox browser security-wise.

Are you a victim of another Facebook spam?

Are you a victim of another Facebook spam?
Have you opened files ending with ".at" or ".be"? If yes, welcome to the 'phishing' victims club. A million Facebook users have been hit by a new phishing scam that can result in crashing your computers or mobile phones and steal your passwords?
The phishing scam is being run through the spam messages which steal sensitive information of the Facebook users. In the attack, the messages are circulated with a subject line of "Hello" and a prompt to check out "areps.at" or other URLs ending in ".at".It is highly recommended not to click on these links for your computer security.
The mails with the subject line "Look at This" and links like -- goldbase.be, greenbuddy.be, silvertag.be, picoband.be -- leads to some malicious Web sites, which if visited, could secretly download malware onto computers through a "drive-by download" application.
The URL connectivity, before being blocked directs the visitor to a fake Facebook page and the mail ID and password are stolen as soon as it is logged-in again.
According to the All Facebook blog.Facebook, the password in such cases should be changed immediately and the same message should be sent across to one's Facebook acquaintance.
"Whoever is behind the scam has been steadily amassing a large number of e-mail addresses and passwords over the past few weeks," the blog says.
Though, Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt said: "The impact of this attack or the previous ones are not widespread and only impacted a tiny fraction of a per cent of users.
"We've been updating our monitoring systems with information gleaned from the previous attacks so that each new attack is detected more quickly," he added.
The site has blocked links to the new phishing sites from being shared on Facebook and has added them to the block lists of the major internet browsers.
The social networking site is working with partners to have the sites taken down completely, he said adding Facebook is also cleaning up phony messages and wall posts and resetting the passwords of affected users.
"We believe the bad guys here are phishing an account and then trying those credentials on webmail providers," Schnitt said.
So, for example, if a user is compromised on Facebook and has the same login and ID password for their Gmail, the attacker may be able to intercept the Facebook password reset and compromise the account again in the future, he added. Password must be changed often to maintain your account security and password security.

Free computer security software
Like more than a million others in the last year, he had his identity stolen while shopping on line.
“They started out small in 15, 25 dollar increments, and they slowly increased. I tallied it up to somewhere close to $25,000.”
Consumer Reports’ Dean Gallea cautions only shop at sites you trust. And it’s essential to protect your computer from spyware, viruses, and spam by installing security software.
Consumer Reports tested security suites costing between 50 and 90 dollars. But Dean found free security software that’s on par with the best. To fight viruses: AntiVir from Free-dash-A-V-dot-com. To prevent spyware: Windows Defender from Microsoft.com. And to stop spam: Spamfighter Standard from Spamfighter.com.
You also want to protect against phishing. These emails look like they come from banks and other companies, but are actually lures to gain access to your accounts.
Dean Gallea, of Consumer Reports, says “Never click on links in e-mails that go to banks or other sites that have your personal information.”
Instead, type the company’s Web address into your browser. For more your computer security, download free anti-phishing software, such as the McAfee Site Advisor, this warns when you go to a dangerous site.

Virus Protection for Computers
Computer security... No one thinks twice when they have computers. There is no question that everyone needs to protect their computers from viruses, but the installation of antivirus and spyware blocker can be paid and free.
There are some things which you yourself can do to your computer to keep it safe and secure from viruses and hackers. But if you still mess up with things, you can reach me at 1800602586, anytime. You can always look out for the free antivirus software, but make sure that you are choosing the best. Simply keep the following steps in mind while choosing automated anti-virus protection.
- Stay Up-to-date: This not only applies to your anti-virus software, but also your operating system, browser and email client. Most viruses take advantage of known security problems in your computer’s software. There is almost always a patch available for the software before viruses appear on the scene that takes advantage of the vulnerabilities. If you use Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, Windows Update and Office Update respectively provide an easy way to keep up-to-date with security patches.
- Use Common Sense: This may sound little rude, but most virus infections wouldn’t happen if the computer user would think about what they are doing and use a little common sense. If you get a strange looking email message delete it instead of opening it to satisfy your curiosity. If a message, even a normal looking one, has an attachment you were not expecting to receive, don’t click on it to see what it is. Much of the secret to safe computing is smart computing.
- Don’t Follow the Crowd: Almost all viruses use flaws or features of Microsoft products. Using alternative software, especially Web browsers and email programs will thwart most viruses. Mozilla is good choice for both Web browser and email client. Using a non-Microsoft operating system such as Linux can also be a good choice for some. These measures won't prevent all viruses but they will greatly improve your chances of not becoming infected with the most prevalent viruses.

Windows Live OneCare – Computer Security
Windows Live OneCare is a security suite by Microsoft. Most of us don’t use Windows Live OneCare but it has the basic computer security features and more, since the time was launched. Now it has improved PC security features which are really useful. Now it has Anti-Identity theft, easy to configure centralized Data backup, and the most important Virus and spyware blocker. The most notable feature of it all is being able to control 3 PC’s at once.
It’s easy to install Windows Live OneCare. I am installing it on my Windows Vista operating system. I am assuming that the process would be almost same in other versions of Microsoft windows xp and Microsoft windows vista.
After launching the Live OneCare installation process it checks for updates. Then the rest of the setup starts. The first option is to select language and then it provides description of the software suite. Click Next.
After that you are prompted to read and accept the terms of use. And just after accepting those terms of use, the installation will start. It may take more than 10 minutes if you have slow internet connection.
Then it will reboot after loading everything.
Upon returning you will get a welcome screen of sorts. Here you can choose to go with step 1 which will require you to purchase a license ($49.95) or go with the limited trial which is what I have selected. Since this is my first experience with Windows Live OneCare I want to test everything out during the 90 day trial which I feel is the right decision before investing money.
Just after the confirmation, Windows Live OneCare is on a roll and working!
The next settings to pop up you may recall selecting when first installing Vista. OneCare wants to choose the type of network connection the PC is connected to.The Windows Live OneCare control center is where to change settings, run scans, and associate other security tasks.
Windows Live OneCare Settings allow you to configure various aspects of how different protection components work.
One of the schedulable features is a PC tune-up. This will perform typical maintenance tasks like defragmenting the Hard Drive, Scan for Viruses, and check for security updates from Microsoft.
There will be advisories that tell you about Security Updates from Microsoft which are still not installed on your Computer. These provide a brief detailed description of the update and also allow you to connect to the Microsoft website to get even more information.

Computer security
Whether you are using a computer at your office or at your home.. whatever it is , computer security is must. Make sure your computer is save from viruses and spywares. It is very easy for hackers to hack your computer and get your all details and use them in their favor. Here are some tips for computer security -
è The most important is installing anti-virus software. There are many antivirus and spyware removal deals and packages are available in the market. There are free services and paid services as well. These services check and scan your computer periodically and make sure you are maintaining your antivirus software. As there are so many viruses which are being discovered every day. Better keep an eye on it and check updates from your antivirus software vendor.
è The other important factor is the spam mails you receive in your mail box. It’s better not to open those emails as they contain virus. They attempt to trick you into becoming a participant in the process. The latest viruses can “spoof” the sending email address so that it looks like it is coming from someone other than the computer that infected it.
è If the sender is unknown then don’t open that email, better delete it, if you were really want to check it and read the message..Don’t click any link or download any attachment as the chances are that they are viruses in it.
è Keep your computer patched against known vulnerabilities. Almost as often as new viruses are discovered, new vulnerabilities are discovered as well. Many times they are in the operating system (like Windows), but vulnerabilities are also found in tools like your web browser, email software and other 3rd party tools. Left unpatched, these vulnerabilities can be exploited by hackers to obtain access and control of your computer.
Make sure you stay updated with the new updates which are being provided by your vendor. If your computer is not secure...hackers can hack it nay time… May be they are actually peeping into your computer or laptop. Keep a check on your computer security and maintain your PC- health.

Create Exceptions in Vista Firewall
Vista Firewall works as a wall between the computer and the www world, like a wall needs to have a passage through a door, same way, it needs to have let some data get in and out by making changes in Computer security. There are some settings which are made by the operating system automatically and there are some settings which need to be done manually.
Manual exception for a program –
For that you need to go control panel (go to start and then click on control panel), there is a link called “Allow a program through windows firewall”. Make sure that you are on general tab, and check the option” On (recommended)” is selected. If not so then enable it, this action will enable the firewall.
Then move on to the exceptions tab at the top. To add a program click on the add program which is near the bottom. Then a list of programs will be displayed, locate the program, highlight it and click ok. Make sure that you have selected the programs and then click ok.

Computer security for home users
Computer security is the main concern for every user. There are various methods to keep your computer secure from viruses, spywares, Trojan and many more. There are paid spyware blockers as well as virus removal, but I prefer the free one..., if you are getting the same service in free then why to pay?
It’s normal thing if you surf net...like visiting different web sites, social networks and other websites then your computer security and privacy is at risk. Phishing emails, network worms, spywares, viruses can easily attack on your personal data.
Just a few useful tips to protect your computer from viruses -
After the installation of any operating system, get your computer updated with spyware blockers or spyware or virus protection.
Always keep your spam filter updated. Do not open any suspicious emails.
Scan every file before downloading it.
And if you do not have any hardware firewalls then use inbuilt security in the windows xp or windows Vista.
Following is the list of some of the tools which I have used and are effective.
| Anti-Virus | Clamwin |
| Spyware Protection | Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster, Ad-Aware |
| Hardware Firewall | Linksys Router |
| Software Firewall | Comodo Personal Firewall |
I have used Clamwin, it will do auto database updates but it does not provide real time protection. I usually sit for an hour twice or thrice in a month just to scan my PC with the provided list of antispywares and spyware blockers.
For me...my data is really very important and a single virus can destroy it beyond repair, it is really very important to keep your computer updated and protected. If you need any help regarding your computer or laptop, you can contact me at 1 800 602 586. Will be Happy to help.
